Revolutionizing High-Throughput Enantiomeric Drug Characterization with High-Resolution Ion Mobility

Abstract

A MOBIE-based workflow for chiral analysis offers unprecedented broadscale high resolving power on a timescale that is orders of magnitude faster than traditional LC-based approaches. The thalidomide tragedy, in which one enantiomer relieved symptoms of morning sickness in pregnant mothers while the other caused severe birth defects, underscores the critical societal need for reliable, high-throughput methods to distinguish and quantify chiral drug forms during development.

Summary
Abstract
  1. The MOBIE® system’s high resolving power across a broad mobility range represents a powerful development for chiral analysis, both in terms of separation and assay throughput.
  2. Combining MOBIE analysis with copper-amino acid complexation enables the differentiation of chiral drugs.
  3. MOBIE instrumentation is sensitive to small changes in sample composition, enabling quantitation of enantiomeric excess using ion mobility data.
